So we had Spring Break and it was awesome! The Three Peewees (Isabel, Sofia and myself) and our brother from another gender, Mats, chipped in for some nice rental wheels to explore the biggest island Hawai'i has to offer. Which is to say, not very big. Without his usual male entourage, Mats was super excited to be the only co..., I mean rooster, in the henhouse.

"How abooout... (Mats in his soothing voice) you like, don't do it like that maybe?" Mats likes to have his bags packed a certain way, and can sometimes get a bit aggressive about it.

We forgive him though, because we know he loves us, and there are obvious benefits to bringing a boy camping.
Hotels are for losers, we went straight to Walmart to find our new digs. Tall, blue and proud, with space for six people, we found the penthouse of tents and headed for the campinggrounds. Where we met up with my favourite A team (Annabelle, Ashleigh and Anna) who are quite as good at BBQing as they are at drinking cheap wine.
Annabells, the grill master and pyramid drinker.
Summed up quickish, we took a helicopter ride to get up close and cosy with the active vulcanoes. Which was great, except the lava was really more grey than red, and I had images of flaming red lava spewing in the air caught on my mind. Though I suppose I shouldn't go helicoptering around spewing lava anyway. The black sand beach was a cool sight, so was Akaka waterfalls. We went snorkeling and made friends with a cute sea turtle who liked swimming around our feet nibbeling on the reef. He was smaller than the others, I suppose he maybe didn't have too many friends in the turtle community and sought friends elsewhere on the beach. I'm gonna call him Nibbles.
A vulcano. A great sight, sure, but where is the lava? I wanna see red!
At Hilo we had crepes at the only French restaurant in the world that doesn't serve wine (that's so special they should put it in the guide book!) and pancakes at a good old American diner. I think what I liked the most though, was one of those nights at the camping ground, we'de all been to dinner at a local mexican eatery and had a few glasses of red down by the beach. Going for a swim on the beach with the moon shining and the tent waiting... in the words of celebrity-Anton, it was frrrrrrresch!
We went back to Waikiki, where we jumped out of airplanes at North Shore, had too many tequilas at Coconut Willie's, BBQed, too many tequilas again, spring break melted into easter holidays, and we dressed up for a fantastic saturday night at Pearl, my fave club. So that was it. Spring Break/easter: check and it was awesome!
